New York based producer Karsh Kale and New Delhi based electronica group The Midival Punditz pioneered a sound synonymous with the sublime blurring of boundaries between classical Indian, electronica and rock. They coined the name “Asian Massive” to describe this genre. Five years and four albums later, this all-star lineup returns with a fierce live set that will include new material and featured guest musician and ghazal vocalist, Vishal Vaid.

Karsh Kale - Broken English

On "Broken English," his third full length album, Karsh Kale reconfigures his sound to incorporate a flourishing community of like-minded artists, who shine in a series of unique collaborations that emphasize lyricism and harmony. The album features vocal contributions from 11 different people, and is painstakingly constructed around elaborate compositions that highlight the indisputable talent of Kale's hand-picked ensemble of backing musicians. more »

Karsh Kale - Realize

Realize is Kale's first album and truly unique in its ability to suspend time and expectation for its listener. A seamless mix of instrumentation from East and West is effected and panned to ideal effect and becomes relatable via the wafty yet dramatic vocals of Vishal Vaid and Falguni Shah. Though mainly down tempo, Kale uses drum'n'bass rhythms simultaneously with tabla to various intensity. An excellent demonstration that sound can transcend music.

It's funny; Friday morning I cued up a bunch of Karsh's tracks and tried to envision what the show that night would exactly entail. However, the beats complimented all-to-perfectly my morning cup of chai and Digestive cookies! After switching up the music in my system, 'twas decided that I had no idea of what a Karsh Kale show would be! Oh well, 'Saajana' was replaced with Femi Kuti's 'What Will Tomorrow Bring' and at some point, while stupidly looking at the tickets to make sure I had enough for my group, I noticed the suhana.ca URL. more »
