Asian music has a long tradition of music and dance, presented in a unique concert hall setting. Habib Sabri will headline, and Akademi will present a programme of classical and folk dance. 12.30pm-1.30pm: Sitar Fusion A collective of East London artists, creators and originators of the Bashaki Mela. They bring to this mela an infusing set, influenced by the rivers and landscape of Bangladesh. 1.45pm-2.30pm: Arun Gosh Arun's music uses the spirit and language of jazz with the sounds and styles of hip-hop, Indian classical and folk, western classical, rock, pop and avant-garde music. 3pm-6pm: Akademi Inside Classical mela's concert hall size marquee, Akademi, one of the many invited dance companies, will present a glittering programme of folk, classical and contemporary dance. This new creative collaboration with The London Mela highlights the talents of classical dancers such as Gauri Sharma Tripathi's group ANKH, alongside Pushkala Gopal's Bharata Natyam dance group Mudra Laya. Additional talents include Satish Shah's folk dance group Saraswati and many others, so be prepared to be dazzled by a mesmerizing array of dance on a summer's day. 6.15pm-7pm: Sher Miandad Qawwal Sher Miandad Khan is one of the most recognized Qawwals of Pakistan, singing in Urdu and Panjabi. 7.30pm-8.30pm: Habib Sabri Sufi Qawwal Habib Sabri is infamous in the field of Quawwali having sung in so many Bollywood films (Fiza,Yamraj, Mehbooba, Kuch Tumne Kaha Hota and Rimjhim). Habib, from Jalna, a small village in Maharashtra India, is the disciple of Gulam Farid Sabri and Magbool Sabri from Pakistan. |
