Notecrusher
Notecrusher is Boston based producer/DJ/percussionist Chance Kunga. Trained in European classical and jazz theory, and veteran of a slew of bands that spanned rock, punk, soul, funk, reggae, and experimental stylings, Chance began producing MIDI-based electronic dance music on an Atari 1040ST computer in 1987. By the end of the 90’s, UK breakbeat in general and the Asian Underground scene in particular inspired Chance to give up playing drums in bands to focus his musical energies completely on computer-based production as Notecrusher.
Afterparty in the Afterlife is Notecrusher’s first full-length album. It features the voices of Tibetan master Chemey Youdon Dhonsar, Guinean griot Batrou Diabate, thirteen year old chanteuse Shani Flaum, and other performers from around the globe, interwoven with Chance’s breakbeat and electro-funk grooves. It’s available on Break Left Records from cdbaby, amazon and itunes.
Live, Notecrusher forgoes performance of his recorded material in favor of a dynamic platform for improvisation featuring electronic percussion, sequences, samples and loops.
